Chantal has also been working since the very beginning with Dr. Èvelyne Bourdua-Roy at the Reversa Clinic, on her innovative type 2 diabetes reversal program. Mario Carrière, Medical Assistant and Certified Coach
Two years ago, following severe non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (fatty liver), Mario discovered that he was pre-diabetic and in very bad condition. He stumbled upon an article by Dr. Jason Fung, read his best-selling book Obesity Code, and then quickly realized that everything he thought he knew about weight loss was wrong.
With a solid background in science and self-teachings, Mario adopted a diet low in carbohydrate and high in fat (LCHF), with both intermittent and prolonged fasting. He lost 65 lbs in 3 months and his steatosis reversed in 8 months. In addition, he noticed a marked improvement in all of his health markers. He developed a real passion for this way of life. After reading and watching hundreds of articles and videos on the subject, he began to help people with the ketogenic diet and fasting on Facebook groups.
In January 2018, Mario joined the Clinic Reversa team, which allowed him to undergo training and thus perfect his skills. He then began to follow-up with diabetics who also have metabolic disorders, overweight, blood pressure problems, fibromyalgia and other health issues.
At 49 years of age and 6 feet tall, Mario now trains regularly. He cycles and does several other sports activities. But most of all, he has found a level of wellness that allows him to do it all while helping others to do the same.
Sophie Rolland, Certified medical assistant and coach
Sophia Gagnon recently obtained a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in neuroscience from the Faculty of Medicine at the Université de Montréal. During her master’s degree, she performed research to understand how cellular metabolism, in response to stress, may be altered in the context of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). She is a neuroscientist, passionate about science and determined to understand the pathological mechanisms that lead to disease. She completed her 10 years of study with 4 children, including 3 boys with attention deficit disorder. Completely exhausted, both mentally and physically, she began to take an interest in the ketogenic diet and the science that serves as its foundation. She quickly realized why she was so exhausted and how the ketogenic diet is intimately linked to the optimal functioning of the nervous system.
She also understood the effect that carbohydrates have on the body’s metabolism in general and how it went completely against what had been taught to her at university. She then began to change her whole family’s diet to become a ketogenic family. She herself was suffering from anxiety and struggled to regulate her moods. Weight management had always been difficult and she had tried many diets (Thin For Life, WW, high protein diet, etc.) without lasting success.
In a short time, her vital energy came back, and after a few months, she had managed to lose 50 pounds, and most importantly, was able to wean off her medication. Since then, she trains intensively 5-6 times a week, and has never been so healthy. She practices intermittent and prolonged fasting and her toolbox is now well-stocked. Her three boys are on psychostimulants, and have had their dosages reduced by more than half.
Sophia is particularly interested in the scientific aspect and the research concerning the ketogenic diet since she completed her studies. She loves to delve into the scientific literature in order to stay abreast of any new information. Desiring to help others and motivated to pass on her scientific knowledge, she joined the Reversa and Keto-Solutions teams in January 2019.
Pascal Lemieux, Certified Coach
Pascal has been type 1 diabetic for almost 36 years. His experience in managing his diabetes is second to none. He is also a fan of outdoor and endurance sports. He practices many activities such as road biking, running (marathons, ultra-marathons) cross-country skiing, and sea kayaking. He also has a great interest in health and the science related to it. It was in 2014 that Pascal’s life changed when he chose to adopt the ketogenic diet to help him manage and treat his illness. Diet plays a major role in the treatment of diabetes. He now achieves better results, much more stable, while dedicating less effort than in the past.
His new diet allowed Pascal to beat his personal best at the Ottawa Marathon in 2017 with only 25g of carbs for the entire race. Also in 2017, he completed the UTHC (Ultra-Trail Harricana of Canada) 65 km in trails (1500 meters D +), all with 65 grams of carbohydrates. In 2018, still in “Keto adapted” mode, he returned to the UTHC, this time for the 80 km distance (2200 meters D +) and he completed the challenge with 135 g of carbohydrates.
Pascal wants to share the benefits of the ketogenic diet for the treatment of type 1 diabetes, so that more people who are affected like him can benefit from the diet and avoid disastrous complications from the disease. Pascal joined the Keto-Solutions team in June 2019.
Lily Laforest, Certified Coach
Passionate about the ketogenic diet and LCHF, Lily has technical training in analytical chemistry and a certificate in chemical analysis from the University of Québec in Montreal.
Having lived all her adult life with considerable overweight, Lily was heading for bariatric surgery, weighing 254 lb at 5-foot-4 inches, when she became interested in fasting around the end of 2017. Her interest in fasting pushed her towards the low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diet. In February 2018, Lily enrolled in the Reversa Clinic program, Contrecoeur cohort 17. But she had already understood the basics of ketogenic nutrition before even meeting Dr. Bourdua-Roy!
Lily became a moderator on various Facebook pages on LCHF and the ketogenic diet before joining the Keto Solutions team as a moderator. This dietary change allowed Lily not only to heal herself metabolically, but also to lose one hundred pounds. This new breath also gave her the chance to train and realize a big dream, that of completing the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie! She accomplished her dream in June 2019! Despite a busy schedule, she continues to consolidate her knowledge with readings that are concerned directly or indirectly with the ketogenic diet and fasting. Lily joined the Keto-Solutions team in June 2019.
Martin Leblanc, Certified Coach
In December 2017, Martin weighed 260 lbs at 5 foot 7, and just entering his 40s, this was quite a shock! With a tendency for binging, he carried this excess weight for too long. A change was needed, but which, since he had already tried everything including the famous “eat less and move more” diets for several years, without success.
In 2018, motivated to find a solution, research helped him discover intermittent fasting. It all clicked into place, it was the beginning of his new passion! He read all that exists from Dr. Jason Fung and finally understood why everything he thought he knew was not working. In addition, he realized he had to unlearn all the myths about weight loss. So excited by his new passion, he managed to get his family on board for the adventure.
Martin is passionate about intermittent and long fasts. He has been administering a Facebook group on intermittent fasting for more than a year and is a reference for his 4000 subscribers! He continues to deepen his knowledge, devoting all his free time to read and learn about anything that is concerned with the ketogenic diet, LCHF, intermittent fasting and long fasts.
What motivates him the most is to help and guide those who want to change their lives; he is driven by the success of others! Martin is convinced that the ketogenic diet combined with fasting is a very powerful tool, if it is well used! He managed to lose 75 lbs in 15 months. Martin joined the Keto-Solutions team in June 2019.
Nathalie Roy, Certified Coach
Nathalie has been an administrative assistant in the field of health since 1991, and has always had health at heart. She comes from a family where heart problems are common, and Nathalie has always looked for a way to thwart the curse of hereditary heart disease. In 2006, Nathalie underwent bariatric surgery which resulted in weight loss of nearly 100 pounds, but then gained back 50 over the years. This resulted in enormous guilt and a sense of failure that was hard on her soul.
In 2014, Nathalie began to have chronic hip pain that became more and more debilitating. Various health professionals only partially relieved the pain. In 2016, she hardly worked anymore; just the minimum necessary and used painkillers in high doses.
30 years of various yoyo diets (low calorie, vegetarian, hypotoxic…) did not just damage her body, but also left her with moral suffering. In December 2017, she discovered fasting, and soon after also discovered the low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diet. Nathalie is an intuitive and passionate person, so she quickly understood the basics of this diet. She has lost 75 lbs, and the pain in her hips have finally disappeared. She has been a moderator on several Facebook groups, allowing her to answer hundreds of questions and perfect her experience of LCHF and ketogenic nutrition. She is convinced that this is a simple and sustainable way of eating. She says that weight loss is 30% work, and the rest takes place between your two ears! Nathalie joined Keto-Solutions in June 2019.
Marc Ciminelli, Kinesiologist
Having obtained his Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Concordia University and his Master’s degree in physical activity from the University of Montreal, Marc is an accredited member of the Federation of Quebec Kinesiologists (FKQ) and has a certification in CPR and DEA (automated external defibrillator).
With his experience with cardiac rehabilitation and development of exercise programs for specific populations (suffering from hypertension, diabetes, obesity, etc.), Marc worked for several years in physical evaluation and has extensive knowledge of the physiology of exercise. In addition, the ketogenic diet/LCHF has become his diet of choice for over 2 years after completing ‘Real Meal Revolution’ training as a Banting nutrition coach (just another way to say ketogenic/LCHF).
